Class 40 5100 kW Electric Locomotives
The class 40 and 41 locomotives were produced by Electroputere Craiova between 1965 and early 1990s under license from ASEA Sweden. They are based on the Swedish class Rb1 locomotives produced in the early 1960s. The first 10 locomotives were produced in Sweden. The original CFR class designations were 060-EA (40) and 060-EA1 (41). The two classes are identical with the exception of the top speed. Class 40 locomotives are geared for 120 km/h while class 41 have a top speed of 160 km/h. Electroputere Craiova produced cca 2,000 class 40 and 41 locomotives, most of them being delivered to CFR. 75 units were delivered to JZ (Yugoslav Railways) in the 1970s. In the 1980s BDZ (Bulgarian Railways) ordered class 40 locomotives.
After 1990 many units were scrapped. Those that remained in service are currently being rebuilt with new motors and traction control systems.
Fabrica de Hartie Busteni (Busteni Paper Mill)
The Busteni Paper Mill operated until recently a narrow gauge railway for transports between the different sections of the factory. The factory had two DC electric locomotives built in 1913-1914 in Bucharest by AEG. The Busteni Paper Mill operated also, until 1966, one of the world's longest funiculars. The funicular carried wood from Bolboci in the Ialomita valley over the Bucegi mountains to the paper mill, a total of 24 km (15 mi).
